CALL TO ACTION: AMMENDMENT TO UNRUH ACT. Assemblywoman Linda Halderman is very interested in people's civil rights and thinks the amendment we are working on is a very good thing. She is considering supporting this bill for us. We need EVERYONE to call and email your request for her support on the amendment to the Unruh Act.

Dear Assembly Member Halderman;

Thank you for meeting with Jeff Rabe on my behalf on Wednesday 2/02/2011. The amendment to the Unruh Civil Rights Act that Jeff spoke to you about is near and dear to every motorcyclist’s heart. The amendment adds “means of transportation, clothing, or identifying membership in any association, organization, group or club” to the existing protected categories.

As motorcyclists, we have been denied access into public places specifically because of what we wear or what we ride, not because of individual behaviors. Business owners have been “threatened” by Law Enforcement to pull their liquor license for serving “our kind.” A large MC event in Fresno was shut down minutes before it was to open because of these issues. There seems to be a growing movement, fueled by the media; to lump tax-paying, God-fearing American motorcyclists with “street gangs.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. We wear our club patches proudly to identify our “roots” in brotherhood, sisterhood, veterans, religious, service (Fire, Police) and other “like” groups.

Motorcycle Clubs are not street gangs and we should not be categorized as such based on falsehoods and sensationalized hype. Adding these protected categories to the Unruh Civil Rights Act assures us the freedom to associate with like-minded individuals in the pursuit of our happiness, a constitutionally protected American right.

Thank you for taking the time to visit with Jeff Rabe and hear our concerns. You have proven you are a friend to motorcyclists and I hope you will consider carrying the amendment to the Unruh Civil Rights Act on our behalf.
